Do not take so much that you will have to pay the airline extra for your luggage. Neither should you take so less that you will have to phone back home to send you whatever you require.
People are always advising their friends to pack lightly if they are travelling abroad. This maxim holds more water when you are going out of country on a study abroad program. When you have confirmed your travel, you need to start planning on what you will take along with you to your study trip abroad. You need to achieve a balance between what you should take and what you should leave behind. Do not take so much that you will have to pay the airline extra for your luggage. Neither should you take so less that you will have to phone back home to send you whatever you require. Shopping abroad may not be so cheap; it is important to intelligently pack for your study abroad travel.

First of all, take care of your most important documents like your visa, passport and any other documents required by your university program. Also take ample supply of a medicine that you take regularly. Find out beforehand if you will be required to show a doctor?s prescription for the medicines to pass through airport custom officers.

Now we come to the objects that take the most thinking while packing a bag; your clothes. You will be staying at least a few months in the new country, so you will need to shop there to keep you going. But pack enough clothes that you will not need to head to a shopping mall for the first two weeks at least. You will be so busy in settling down that it will be difficult to take time out to shop.

Even if you already own the textbooks and the stationary required during your foreign study program, it is a good idea to leave them behind. They will weigh down your luggage unnecessarily and you will have to pay extra for your baggage. It will be much cheaper to buy new sets when you have reached your destination.

When you have finalized all the important items you will take along; its time to think of what other odds and ends you will also take along. A diary is an excellent choice to record all your experiences and it also gives you time to reflect on the day. You will miss your family and friends, so also take along some of their photographs & also their contact number s and addresses.

Studying abroad is a wonderful experience, but in the excitement of going abroad, do not forget to pack your bags with all the essentials.
