There are free tools to make computer safer and faster. Learn and enjoy.
Unprotected computers are usually slow because of viruses,
malware, and other unwanted application running in the system. Same slow down
and problem may be encountered on poorly maintained computers.
Below are common computer problems one may encounter with
unprotected and poorly maintained computers.
1. Slow responses
2. Freezing
3. BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death)
To help you handle these problems and make your computer
life more pleasant I have listed below my computer protection and maintenance
FREE tools.
1. Avast! antivirus
It’s the world’s most popular antivirus software which has
160M registration.
This will be the main protection for viruses and other
unwanted applications. Below is the list of protective features available.
1.1 Virus detection and protection. Avast is know for having
the highest virus detection and protection.
Avast being the first followed by McAfee, Trend Micro, AVG,
Symantec, Microsoft. Among the list Avast, AVG and Microsoft offer free version
of antivirus.
1.2 Boot-time Scan. I
only see this feature to Avast. Boot-time is when all application is not
running other than the BIOS. This is the best time to detect and delete
viruses.
1.3 Real-time shields. In Avast I first see this feature
running, for me this very helpful as I most of my time spend my days on
internet. User will be notified by a pop up message when unusual process tried
to run. This feature is monitoring file, mail, web, p2p, IM, network, script
and behavior of an application.
1.4 Auto sanbox. Allow Avast! to automatically run any
suspicious program inside the avast! sanbox at the moment the program is
executed. This ensures that no damage can be done to the operating system or
your files
2. Malwarebytes
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free sweeps away malware
infections but does not include Realtime Proactive Protection.
Think of it like a malware-destroying broom - you can use it
to clean your computer, but your computer won't clean itself (just like Mom
used to say).
Malware is a software program that has bad intentions. It
can either be installed by the computer user accidentally or it can sneak into
your computer through various avenues. Its not the same as a piece of software
that by chance causes harm to your computer, malware is software that has been
developed with the intent of causing problems with your computer.
Some malware are good enough to sneak around with being
detected by antivirus, so antimalware – Malwarebytes would get into action.
The best feature of Malwarebytes is its detection and
deletion process. Its so powerful that most of if not all malwares disable it
first before the can get through.
3.
Ccleaner
CCleaner is the number-one tool for cleaning your Windows
PC. It protects your privacy online and makes your computer faster and more
secure.
It is said that cleanliness is next to Godliness. Ccleaner
will delete all unwanted files we have on our computers. Default settings is
good however user may modify it to suite one’s requirements. I consider this as
the computer janitor.
4. Windows update
After purchasing your Windows operating system, updates will
be free. Most of the time, Microsoft discovers the security hole before bad
guys do. So keeping our computer updated is a good maintenance and protection.
5. Driver Updates
Manufacturer’s support site is the best place to get updated
driver, however you have to do it manually. If you’re like me you would be
using a driver tool to do all the checking, searching, downloading and
installation of updated drivers. As I am using Dell here is<a href=” http://xpdrivers.com/dell/_2_135448.cfm”>Dell
Driver</a> tool.
Like Windows update, it is free and will highly affect computer
performance.
Hope it helps.
