One of the most important ways to bond with your baby is through touch. From the time they are newborns it is important to begin the bonding process that will encourage pre-verbal communication between you and your child. One of the most effective ways to accomplish this is to engage in infant massage. It has proven to have immediate and lasting results, establishing the parental contact infants need to feel nurtured and protected. My Baby Fingers is now offering infant massage in NYC to supplement their sign language and music therapy sessions that are beneficial to infants, older children and adults.
Lora Heller, the director and founder of My Baby Fingers is a music therapy specialist, as well as an expert in American Sign Language [ASL]. She began My Baby Fingers to share her knowledge of the power of music and the benefits of teaching ASL to infants and young children. She has her Masters degree in deaf education and has worked extensively with deaf students of all ages. She was inspired to create an environment in which to teach young children ASL when she discovered the benefits to her own children when they began to sign when they were infants.
Lora has recently added infant massage to her repertoire of programs at My Baby Fingers. She believes that it provides the necessary means for parents to bond with their children in a beneficial and relaxing manner. Parents and caregivers learn to respond to a baby’s unique cues and are able to develop increased confidence in their parenting skills through sensory perception. Babies benefit through physical contact with their parents, encouraging a sense of well-being, proven benefits to their immune systems and assistance in developing improved sleep patterns. Infant massage is a parenting tradition that has fallen by the wayside, but is now being re-embraced and adapted to help parents and babies cope in these stressful times. It is a natural and rewarding method to help nurture infants, and develop a strong parental bond.
Lora Heller is in the process of becoming a Certified Educator of Infant Massage [CEIM], and plans to combine infant massage techniques with her skills in sign language and music therapy. Lora believes her infant massage in NYC will be beneficial to all parents and babies, but especially for those with special needs. These unique classes will provide additional insight in how to cope with a special needs child, as well as help the children grow and develop despite their difficulties. Clinical evidence has shown that loving, physical contact through infant massage has a positive impact on children later on in life.
My Baby Fingers has programs for children all year round at their New York City location.
