1.    Four-in-hand Knot

2.    Half Windsor Knot

3.    The Windsor Knot

4.    Pratt Knot

The first three types of tie knots are the oldest types of knots that were in use. The fourth one is the recently introduced knot type that was disclosed to public in 1989.

There are many times in our life when we are required to get ready within few minutes. If you don’t know how to tie a tie, you have to look for someone who does this job for you. You will waste another few minutes in calling someone to tie a knot. Instead, if you know the trick to tie a knot, you would save those precious seconds. After having learned how to tie a tie, you will have great satisfaction in knowing that you will no longer have to rely on someone else. Below are some tips for tying different tie knots.

Four-In-Hand Knot

It is the most popular type of tie knot. It is easy to learn than the other types and about 80% of tie wearers prefer this type of tie knot.

·        Place the wide end of the tie on the right side and the narrow end on the left of your shoulders from around your neck.

·        Bring the wide end over the narrow end from right to left and take a round turn. Bring the wide end underneath from left to right and then again bring the wide end over the narrow end from left to right.

·        Now bring the wide end of the tie through back of the loop. Hold the front knot loose with the index finger and pass the wide end through the loop.

·        Tighten the knot and hold the narrow end of the tie and slide the knot up to the collar.

Half Windsor knot

·        Start with the wide end of your tie and extending about a foot below the narrow end of the tie.

·        Place wide end of tie over the narrow end from right to left and then the wide end back from underneath from left to right.

·        Thus the loop will be formed. Now take the broad end of the tie through the middle of the loop. Again bring the wide end around front from left to right.

·        Take the wide end from back of the loop. Hold the knot in front with the index finger and pass the wide end through the loop. Remove the finger and tighten the knot.

·        Hold the narrow end and slide the knot upwards to the collar.

There are two other types of knots, but the above mentioned ones are more popular amongst the tie wearers.
