The journey of the animal’s
amazing was seen by a woman walking her dog as a bird waddled 2ft out of the
water in front of her. She said: `It was out of this world to see. `There was
this thing standing on the brilliant white sand and I thought I saw things.
The tale of the lost penguin is
similar to the 2006 children’s film Happy Feet, in which a young penguin is far
away from home for a journey of discovery.
Environmentalists believe that
it has completed an incredible journey for a young bird - it is estimated at
about 10 months.
The most likely explanation
for its appearance in New Zealand is the hunt for food.
Experts said he may also have
rested on an ice floe during his trip and was carried north on a long distance
before taking a bath for dry.
Colin Miskelly, a curator at
the Museum of New Zealand, said:’they can spend months in both the ocean and
only come ashore to moult and rest’.
Mr Miskelly said the bird
courage would find his way to the south soon if she would survive. He said: “It
is probably hot and thirsty and ate the wet sand. It` s make the isn’t sand will
melt inside because they typically eat snow - their only liquid”.
New Zealand residents were
warned to give the bird a wide berth - it can inflict a painful bite if
threatened.
I think we can now this guy do
is helping it go home soon. This is a brave penguin, in
order to looking for food away from his hometown, lost way but its strong
alive.
