Bathroom suites play a fundamental role in the home. It is important, therefore that they are able to perform this function without any obstacles. So, it pays to know how to clean your bathroom, and the simple steps that will keep your bathroom space clean and tidy.

Although bathrooms are usually modest spaces, they are often full of stuff. Prior to cleaning your bathroom therefore it is a good idea to remove all of the removable elements from your bathroom, such as toiletries and toilet brushes etc. Ideally you will clean these items separately.

Now that your working space is clear, you can begin cleaning. Whilst most bathrooms are made from materials that are easy to clean, e.g. porcelain, sometimes some of the elements of your bathroom will be more fragile. For instance, you might have marble fittings. When cleaning these kinds of materials you should avoid abrasive pads, which could damage the surfaces. Otherwise, you can’t go wrong with a few scrubbing pads, some bleach and some cleaning solution.

The most important thing to clean in the bathroom is the toilet. To properly clean a toilet takes a certain amount of effort. When cleaning toilets, bleach is your friend, and you should pour bleach in and around the toilet bowl and leave to stand for the required amount of time. Also, don’t be afraid to use your toilet brush, that’s what it is there for after all.

Whilst much of your bathroom can be cleaned in-situ, you can wash your shower curtain in a washing machine on a gentle setting. Avoid using a boil wash, as this could melt your shower curtain.

Cleaning bathrooms is one of the most tiresome housekeeping chores, so if you are living in a shared house it really is worth having a rota, this way you can ensure that it does from time to time actually get cleaned.
