Being prepared is one of the best ways to have a successful wedding day.
You’ve heard plenty of horror stories about ripped and
stained wedding dresses, messed up makeup and hair, and forgotten necessities.
While it is hard to have a wedding take place without any hitch whatsoever,
there are plenty of things you can do to help yourself be prepared for those
emergency situations. And no, it’s not a flask and some good vodka (though that
might help a bit too). A good maid of honor, like a boy scout, will be always
prepared and always helpful. There are a lot of items that can be gathered
together, by you or your maid of honor, and placed within a bridal emergency
kit to aid in almost any unexpected situation.
There are some obvious major essentials that definitely
should not be forgotten. You want to make sure you are able to take pictures at
any moment, and batteries die relatively quickly. So be sure to bring an extra
set of batteries. A small sewing kit can help mend a lot of different
situations. Be sure it contains safety pins and small scissors. Tissues are a
given, there will be many happy, teary eyes. A bunch of women gathered together
at one time means that someone is likely to be on or start their monthly
period. Be sure to have extra tampons and pads to avoid any staining or similar
accidents. Make sure your cell phone is fully charged and bring a charger just
in case.
You’re going to have a long day full of pictures, dancing,
and everything else under the sun. That means you’re probably going to need to
touchup your hair and makeup now and then. Your makeup will likely already be
at the reception area, so having that available goes without saying. Extra
deodorant is a must with all the stress and activity of the day. Bring nail
polish and lipstick in the shade worn by bride and bridesmaids, along with a
compact mirror, for last minute touchups. An emery board, tweezers, lip balm,
and lotion are also important to bring along. Beautiful hair updos can easily
come undone, and you don’t want anyone with hair half done. A comb and brush,
hair elastics, hairdryer, curling iron, flat iron, hairspray, and extra bobby
pins can aid in a hair crisis.
Clothing mishaps are some of the most feared minor emergencies
that can take place on a wedding day. Be sure to have some static guard, stain
remover, and a lint roller. An iron is also a good item to have handy, for
those guys who didn’t keep their shirts neat and pressed. It is easy to get a
run in a pair of stockings, so bring some clear nail polish to stop a small run
from getting bigger and an extra pair for those runs that are not salvageable. Baby
powder or white chalk can be used to mask stains on white. For those pesky
dresses that won’t stay put, grab some toupee tape.
All the stress and the lack of rest will probably trigger a
headache, so bring some aspirin or other headache medicine. It may also be
smart to bring two different ones, in case someone is allergic to one. Your
stomach will probably have some butterflies here and there, so antacid is a
must. Breath mints are also important. You don’t want brightly colored chewing
gum to be the focal point of wedding pictures. A small first aid kit, including
band aids, may come in handy if someone gets hurt. In all the hustle and
bustle, be sure to eat. Bring plenty of snacks and water to keep blood sugar
levels steady throughout the day; you don’t want anyone to pass out. Use
drinking straws to avoid spilling drinks on dresses and smudged lipstick.
Each bride and every wedding is different and therefore the
items needed vary. You may need to add or subtract some items, but at least you
have a starting point. You cannot take everything with you on your wedding day,
so just bring a few of the major necessities. Breathe and relax. Even if a
mishap takes place, just roll with it. Later on in life it will make for a
great memory of your special day that you can look back on fondly and laugh.
