What is a data centre?

It is often said that a company or business without a data centre is like trying to live without breathing; you won’t survive very long. Government institutions, banks, universities and global companies, such a mobile network providers and television companies, have some of the largest data centres; they sometimes even use more than one due to the huge amounts of critical information. Due to the sensitive nature of this information data centres, while being an essential part of an organisation, represent the most vulnerable part of the computer system making the highest level security of utmost importance. Video cameras, CCTV, backups and security guarding are just some of the ways optimum security is achieved. The number of individuals with access to the systems is also limited. With data centre design incorporating this ultimate security, data centres are one of the most efficient and successful ways to keep an organisation running effectively.
