Tool to Fix “The backup file could not be found or is not the file that was requested”

Nowadays, computers have become an important part of organizations and in a computer based organization, database is very crucial because all the information of that organization including sales, accounts, finance, product etc, will be stored in the computer database. Database can include anything like; documents, spreadsheets, images, PPTs, sound files, video files etc and in many organizations, the backup of database is done on decided bases for proper management of information. Backup is also done to get back the information at times of corruption or damage in original database and corruption or damage in original database can take place due to many reasons. However, backup database is used to get back the information at times of corruption or damage in original database but, the backup database file also gets corrupted or damaged and you become unable to restore the database.

Sometimes in Windows Vista, when a user tries to restore a backup file from Restore Files Option, he faces this problem, “The backup file could not be found or is not the file that was requested”

This error message occurs when the Mediaid.bin file is not available and the Mediaid.bin file becomes unavailable when a user moves the backup directory to another location.

If the backup directory has been moved to another drive or to some other file share by the user and the location of original backup is still present then, the under mentioned steps can be performed to solve the problem.

* Locate the file share or the root directory of drive, where original backup is stored.
* Copy Mediaid.bin file.
* Locate the root directory of the drive where the backup is currently stored.
* Paste Mediaid.bin file.

Example: If the backup has been moved to drive D from its original location drive C then, copy paste the Mediaid.bin from the root directory of drive C to drive D.
* Try to restore another backup file.

If the user is still face this error “The backup file could not be found or is not the file that was requested” then, the Mediaid.bin file is corrupted and to restore Exec Backup file in this situation, the user has to perform system BKF recovery with commercial BKF Recovery software i.e. Backup EXEC restore program.
