Since 1990 the law has required that anybody who wishes to ride a motorcycle must first pass a test known as the CBT course. This stands for compulsory basic training and ensures that you are safe to ride on public roads. You must complete the CBT course if you wish to ride a motorcycle or scooter. There are many training schools that offer the CBT course in Birmingham. The CBT course is not like a driving test for a car as it is not actually a test. It is a course that ensures you reach a good standard of safety and control while on the motorcycle so you are safe to ride on roads. Without taking the course and getting the certificate you will not be able to ride unaccompanied on the road. The CBT test can be taken in many different places in and around Birmingham. To find the place closest to you search for CBT Birmingham or CBT test Birmingham via the internet to bring up a list of training schools.

From 16 years old you can ride a moped up to 50cc, from 17 years old you can ride a moped or motorcycle up to 125cc and at 21 or older you can ride larger engine sizes. A CBT course in Birmingham can be carried out in just one day but if you still feel that you need more practice or the instructor doesn't think you are ready for public roads you will be required to take more training before you are issued with your CBT certificate to ride in Birmingham. You will need to have studied the Highway Code before you start driving so you are familiar with common road signs and signals. The CBT Birmingham has 5 elements to complete. The first is an introduction to the course and safety aspects, the second is about familiarising yourself with the motorcycle and its controls, the third is off road training, the fourth is theory and the firth part is driving on the road for at least 2 hours under the supervision of an instructor.

After all 5 parts are complete the instructor will inform you if you have passed your CBT test in Birmingham or whether you need more practice before you will be issued with a certificate.
