Setting goals is like turning the rudder of a heavy boat. It takes time to see results and if you ‘let go’ of the wheel, the boat will drift away from your chosen course. People who give up on their goals don’t realise or are not aware of the six stages you must go through in order to realise the goal they’re seeking.

Setting goals works much better than not setting them.  Successful people from all walks of life have always set goals, and find the process to be an integral part of their life achievements.

When the concept of goal setting was first introduced, everyone was very enthusiastic with this new success concept and began to set them. But after a while, most people simply gave up setting goals because they came to the conclusion that goal setting didn’t work.

Napoleon Hill in his wealth building bestselling book Think and Grow Rich, states clearly that one of the key ingredients amongst the successful businessmen he interviewed were their ability to set goals.  Having a goal provided them with a focus to a destination, which enabled them to push past the obstacles they encountered.

You need to be consistent and persistent in your approach to goal setting. You have to set BIG goals which should stretch you and get you out of your comfort zone.

In life, we get comfortable with where we are at and when we have to do things that we are not accustomed to, we tend not to do them because they make us feel uncomfortable.

Spend at least five minutes each day reading your goals and don’t give up setting goals simply because you don’t see immediate results.

Setting goals is like turning the rudder of a heavy boat. It takes time to see results and if you ‘let go’ of the wheel, the boat will drift away from your chosen course.

People who give up on their goals don’t realise or are not aware of the six stages you must go through in order to realise the goal they’re seeking:

Stage One
After a week or two of reading your goal daily, you will come up with a method of how to achieve them. This method will come in what you might call a hunch or gut feeling. But you must be attuned to receiving these ideas or they will present themselves without you noticing.

Stage Two
After a month or two, you will begin to formulate a plan of action from your ideas. Reading the goal every day make you more mentally alert to opportunities and you now have a clear plan of how you will go after it.

Stage Three
After three months, you now have a set of great ideas and a means to achieving your goal.

Stage Four
After about five months, the plan now becomes clear and you can actually see yourself achieving the goal.

Stage Five
After around eight months, your plan takes shape now and you know how easy your goal will be to achieve.

Stage Six
And, after one year, you will be near to achieving your goal, providing that you continue to read your goals each day, with feeling and formulating and fine tuning your plan for achieving your goal.

These are the stages you must go through in order to achieve your goal. It’s not an instant process and you have to be consistent and persistent.

Now you can see why people give up after the initial euphoria of writing down their goals on paper and bemoan their lot in life.

Don’t give up. Keep focused regardless of what life throws in your path.  As a result, you will achieve your goals… but sometimes not as soon as you thought you would. Don’t let anything or anyone stop you from steering your course.
