Not every funeral plan provider has the same policies, so it’s wise to do your research thoroughly before deciding who to take out funeral plan with.
Making a funeral plans comparison is important when you want to choose the right send-off.

Not every funeral plan provider has the same policies, so it’s wise to do your research thoroughly before deciding who to take out funeral plan with.

Choosing the cheapest option may not necessarily be the best. Take time to read the points listed below before you make any decisions about your funeral planning needs.

    * Payment schedules

There are three main types of funeral plan payment schedule. You can pay in full up front, pay every month until a certain age, or set up an agreed payment plan, typically over two to five years.

Not every funeral plan may include these three options so it’s always worthwhile asking to see if a particular plan is best suited to your finances.

    * Cancellation policy

If you take out a funeral plan and then decide to cancel for any reason, it’s always best to be aware in advance what’s going to happen to any money you’ve already paid in.

Different companies will have their own policies on this so it’s best to make a funeral plan comparison which includes cancellation fees, so you have the full picture before proceeding.

If you already have a funeral plan in place and are looking to cancel, it’s wise to study the small print in your existing plan  as you may be better of switching to a different plan rather than cancelling completely.

    * Funeral type

Most funerals are either traditional cremations or burials. However, you may have a specific idea of how you want your funeral to be, for example a woodland burial.

Not every company may be able to provide a funeral plan tailored to your needs, so again making a funeral plan comparison will let you see the options open to you with each.

    * Funeral plan costs

The costs of any funeral plan you take out are also an important factor, but shouldn’t be used as the only method of comparison.

Once you’ve worked out what’s important to you, then you can look at the costs involved in your funeral planning.

The flexibility of many funeral plans means you shouldn’t have to amend your wishes to fit in with your budget. If you take out a funeral plan now, the payments over a period of time could be affordable, although of course this will depend on your individual circumstances.
