It is believed that 80% of American marines serving in Iraq that died after being shot in the upper body, did so due to inadequate body armor. This statistic may seem shocking, but it is merely a one-off example amidst a great number of other similar cases.
It is believed that 80% of American marines serving in Iraq that died after being shot in the upper body, did so due to inadequate body armor. This statistic may seem shocking, but it is merely a one-off example amidst a great number of other similar cases. Many armies have been criticised for the improper testing of body armor and many more have admitted to not being able to be certain that their protective gear will do the job it needs to.

Anyone being sent into areas that are dangerous deserves to be certain that they have the highest chances of surviving a given incident. Whether that is a bomb blast, a knife attack or being shot at, having equipment that is designed to save lives and being certain that rigorous tests have been taken to ensure they are as effective as possible is going to be the least someone can expect when putting their own life in danger.

Obviously bulletproof clothing can only do much and can only protect certain areas of the body. On top of this, certain armour piercing bullets may also mean that safety can never be guaranteed. And yet, simply sourcing such protective gear from the right company may well be all it takes to have that piece of mind right from the very off.

For companies or organisations who wish to protect their personnel in dangerous environments, it should only be a case of finding a company who can prove the effectiveness of the bulletproof clothing they are selling. The huge number of people dying from ineffective armor goes to show just how important sourcing the right protection is, and just because organisations such as the US army have not always been able to prove the effectiveness of such gear, doesn’t mean that the right company will not be able to.

The difference between extensively tested equipment and those that have not been inspected to the right standards may be almost nothing in terms of cost, but could be the difference between life and death for those wearing them.
