Van Hire in Leyland

Today van hire is a competitive market with so many makes and models on the market. Size, fuel, capacity and ease of use all become important factors in deciding which vehicle to hire.

How do I choose?

The van you hire will be partly, if not totally dependent, on the load you wish to carry. If you want to move furniture then the payload will be less significant than the height of the loading doors. You will have a bed and probably units that will be 6’ high, and thus you will not want to dismantle them to get them into the van.

If you are moving garden rubbish then an open sided truck may be best, so long as you can place a tarpaulin over the rubble as you transport it. If you are moving building rubble then it may not be a closed van you need but a tip truck, which will allow you to unload the rubble with ease and little manual effort.

Should you be driving a distance then you should consider a diesel, as a heavily laden van on the motorway will drink petrol at the rate of a rugby player drinking beer.

How many people will want to travel is also important. Some cabs will seat just two while others will be able to sit up to 5. Should you be making a one-way journey and want to take the family with you then do ensure there is enough seats.

Small print

Always read the T & C’s of hiring. It is very easy to load a van and in so doing damage the bodywork. Vans that are lined inside with plywood are always a good hire as the risk of damage is limited and the cleanliness will be higher. Be aware of the collision damage clause in the contract and also the additional mileage that you may have to pay for if you exceed your allowance.

Van hire is competitive businesses so do not be afraid to look around for prices. If you want a one-way journey then select a company that has depots near your destination as it makes returning the van easier.
