A safety guideline for anyone who is considering taking up internet modeling as a career or models who are new to the industry.
Webcam modeling can be
a lucrative business for men and women willing to bare a little more
than their souls to clients. Since the modeling requires interaction
with the general public, there are some safety concerns that models
should consider before applying for webcam jobs and when performing.
Choosing A Webcam
Agency
There are many
companies out there preying on innocent women. These companies and
individuals can do much more harm than shortchange a pocketbook.
There are some warning signs that all potential models should check
before taking the modeling plunge.
Free Email and Website
If the company you are
looking at uses a free email service such as hotmail or gmail, then
you should avoid them. This also goes for companies that don't have a
job website or a job site with free hosting. These companies need to
look and be professional, so be wary of those that don't.
Individual Versus
Companies
A legitimate cam site
is a business, and as such, should be run by a formal company.
Companies are better regulated and easier to track than individuals.
Also, avoid any companies that originate in countries known for
scams, such as Nigeria.
Contact and Privacy
Reputable companies
want clients, models and advertisers to have the ability to contact
them and have an area with contact information. Be wary of sites
without a contact us page and a privacy statement. Don't give your
private information if you don't see a privacy policy for the
company. Reputable companies also have some type of verification seal
as a way to add additional legitimacy. Click on the seal and make
sure it takes you to the appropriate information.
Modeling Safety
Safety concerns don't
stop once the webcam modeling contract is signed. Models are on
display and become like celebrities to their steady and reliable
clients. Models can spend weeks, months or even years with the same
clients, and many mistakenly let their guard down.
Your Real Name
Models should never,
under any circumstances, provide clients with their real names. It
doesn't matter if it is an insistent new subscriber or a repeat
customer. Once a person has a name, they may be able to look up your
information and even your address. They could also use the
information to plaster your real name all over the Internet.
Contact Information
Many sites offer ways
for subscribers to keep in touch with models when they are away from
their cameras. Some provide internal messaging systems, but
occasionally clients may want e-mail or phone numbers. Never provide
a subscriber with a your personal email or phone number. Instead,
create a new email with a free service that does not have any
personal information. For phone numbers, purchase a no contract
prepaid phone that can be turned off when not in use.
Links and Attachments
Subscribers may send
information to models that contain links and attachments. Models
should be careful when opening as ithey may contain a virus or
malware. These can retrieve personal information from the computer or
crash the computer. Also, uploading a file may record the location
through an IP address.
Packages
If a subscriber wants
to send gifts to a model, they should always be sent to a post office
box. A model's home address should always remain private, and smooth
talking subscribers may be able to weasel your address from delivery
companies.
Webcam jobs are popular
because of their flexibility and potential for good money, but there
are risks. Models should think about safety at all times and follow
these simple rules.
