There was no shortage of clutch bags, shoulder handbags and other such items at this year's London Fashion Week.

According to Sky News, the Burberry Prosum Spring/Summer 2012 collection showed some impressive pieces. It stated that the fashion house had made raffia prominent in its creations. It also pointed out that when it came to tops, coats, belts and bags, neutrals were "ditched for rich autumnal hues".

The event had been opened by London Mayor Boris Johnson. Many found this ironic, as the politician had previously been found in a GQ magazine poll to be the fourth worst-dressed man in Britain.

However, other celebrities more noted for their sense of style also flocked to the event, including Pippa Middleton and Sienna Miller.

Another star to appear at the celebration of all things fashion, although perhaps without any clutch bags, shoulder handbags and so on in tow, was tennis star Andy Murray. The sportsman was there alongside his girlfriend Kim Sears.

And he was not the only Scot to make the journey to London Fashion Week. Pringle of Scotland showcased its spring and summer 2012 collection on day four of the event and this included its first womenswear collection to be led by Alistair Carr.

Commenting on his ideas, face of the brand actress Tilda Swinton remarked: "He's taken an old lady texture and recycled the concept to make something modern. It's really clever."

Despite the high-profile nature of the celebration, it seems as though some designers prioritise Milan Fashion Week above it. According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, Gucci ordered nearly a dozen models to fly from the English capital to Milan to begin fitting for the Italian extravaganza.

A source from designer Todd Lynn told the publication: "It's been a total nightmare for us. We lost ten out of 19 girls. We were getting calls from agents at 1.30am on the morning of the show pulling girls we had just fitted, while other girls just didn't turn up to fittings at all after they'd been confirmed."
