In the last three years more British families than ever before have found themselves in the unenviable position of seeing precious financial assets lose value, some suffering a steady decline while others unfortunately plunge in value until they become totally unsaleable. When this happens their holders often find themselves reluctantly holding onto functionally “dead” assets waiting for the market to pick up, an unpleasant position, especially for investors who have previously enjoyed luck on the stock market without the need for any stockbrokers assistance with asset management and had anticipated more of the same.

While there are of course unwise investments out there, this state of affairs more usually comes about due to normally wise investors choosing to pursue a strategy advised by stockbrokers many years before, during the economic boom of the '80s and '90s. While this strategy may have proved to be a very wise one, opening potential goldmines while the going was good, in the changing financial climate it is simply untenable to follow out of date advice never intended to apply to a situation such as the one in which we find ourselves in Britain in 2011.

The best thing any investor can do for their family or their business this year is to invest in investment management. The advice of stockbrokers who are used to dealing with a recession-era financial climate is irreplaceable when it comes to investment management in hard times. With the economy like it is, relying on outdated advice, internet pundits or the casual comments of friends is simply no replacement for advice from accredited asset management professionals. More and more people are choosing to use the services of stockbrokers for the first time ever this year due to the financial hardships suffered by even the most careful investors in these difficult time.
