Anybody
should be able to get started on a sewing project with the most
minimum of budget. Maybe you are not looking to sew your own clothes
but instead you would like to be able to fix small tears in you
favourite pants or reattach a button to a shirt. Well just having a
needle and a piece of thread might be sufficient for your needs if
your clothes are all of the same type of fabric and colour. If not
read as as we guide you on the basic supplies that you should keep in
a sewing kit for those DIY clothes repair moments.
First
of all before buying any of your supplies make sure you have a
suitable container or box to hold your newly acquired supplies in. We
advise you to choose something that has a lid that can be easily
opened allowing you easy access when required. Next you will need to
get yourself some sewing needles. Make sure you buy 2-3 of each
needle which come in small, medium and large. Please keep in mind
that if you plan to sew with leather then make sure to ask for
suitable needles for this at the store.
Next
is to get yourself a pair of sharp scissors. We advise you to not get
the fabric scissors as they are quite big and expensive and for
basic sewing projects a small scissors will be more then sufficient
do the job. Once you have done this you want to start looking for a
measuring tape. This will allow you to adjust the length of pants,
measure fabric when needed to sew patch ups and much more.
The
only main thing left for you to purchase are the threads. You will
definitely need black and white threads. and for the other colours
look for the smaller mini threads that usually come in a pack of all
the common colours. If not choose a few of the colours that you know
you own clothes in.
You
can go a little further and purchase some pins a thimble and maybe a
seam ripper but what we have already outlined should be more than
enough to serve your needs when doing some basic sewing work. Once
you have mastered the skill of sewing by hand, have a look at this
website if you are considering getting yourself a sewing machine and

Sewing Machines.
