Paper High is an ecology-friendly fair trade company that supplies handmade paper products direct from India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Our diverse range of products includes handmade paper, leather bound journals, Sari photo albums and much more.

The business was born after a small stay in Kathmandu in 2001. Having discovered a lovely and inviting shop that sold beautiful handmade paper we felt inspired to bring this handmade paper to customers in the UK. Once we travelled over to India we were lucky to discover a family of immense creativity who to this day supply us with all our Sari leather books.

The range of paper products that we supply is exclusively sourced from India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The Indian Khadda handmade paper is designed by both us and a family business that operates for Rajasthan, Western India. With no wood involved in the manufacturing process, the paper itself is made from Khadda which is unbleached hard spun cotton rags which are the remnants of the huge garment industry, this handmade paper is equally environmentally friendly and of a superb quality.

The people of Rajasthan still make this paper by hand. This is primarily due to the sheer size of the country and that it is still a thriving source of industry. The process of making the handmade paper is completed in much the same fashion as the process in Nepali, though obviously using cotton and not Lokta. Once the cotton pulp is in its mould a variety of different additions are introduced to give the handmade paper its individual look. This creates a truly unique and bespoke finish where no two sheets are ever identical. Once this process is complete you can add a number of additions like marigold petals, silk thread or grass to give the handmade paper a truly unique finish.

If you’d like to learn more about the handmade paper that we sell, to find out more about either Nepalese Lokta paper or Sri Lankan Elephant Dung paper then simply come and pay us a visit at: www.paperhigh.com.
