What is a Cat6 Cable?

A Category 6 cable is commonly referred to as Cat 6 cable. Cat6 Cable is a cable standard for Gigabit Ethernet and any other network that is physically layered and backward compatible with the Category 5/5e and Category 3 cable standards. Compared with Cat 5 and Cat 5e, the Cat 6 cable features more stringent specifications for crosstalk and system noise. The cable standard provides performance of up to 250 MHz and is suitable for 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX (Fast Ethernet), 1000BASE-T/1000BASE-TX (Gigabit Ethernet) and 10GBASE-T (10-Gigabit Ethernet). A Cat 6 cable is suitable for data and voice communications up to 1000Mbps and has a band width of 250Mhz.

What does a Cat6 Cable offer?

Like most earlier cables, a Cat6 cable contains four twisted wire pairs. A Cat6 cable is sometimes made with 23 AWG wire, it offers increased performance due to the improved insulation. As a  Cat6 able comes with better insulation, performance specifications are met. A Cat6 cable sometimes results in a technically out-of-compliance assembly due to these ticker cables so that needs to be taken into consideration when choosing which cable will work best for your system. The heavier insulation in a Cat6 cable makes them too thick to attach to the required connectors without a special modular piece which can sometimes cause problems if this has not been thought out.
