Ever surfed the internet for corporate gift ideas to find only disappointment?  This article will not disappoint as I’m going to give you specifics.

Corporate gifts can be very expensive per item but are always inexpensive per impression.

Personalized bags, in the US, cost $10 per item and $0.001 per impression, on average;
Promotional calendars cost $5 per item and $0.003 per impression
Personalized coffee mugs cost $5 per item and $0.004 per impression.

Bags get you over 7,000 impressions, calendars almost 2,000, mugs a bit over 1,200.

Let’s start with calendars.  They’re a great corporate gift idea at the end of the year.  And it doesn’t matter whether you’re giving them away to prospects, employees or vice presidents in your company.

Almost everyone has a paper calendar.  According to PPAI.org, 79% of homes and 78% of businesses have paper calendars.  And 50% of people who have cell phones never bothered to use the phone calendar.

Seems counter-intuitive, given how much easier it is to retrieve information from electronic calendars.  The reason for the continued reliance of paper calendars: you can write yourself notes easily, you can have proof (paper trail), you glance up at your wall calendar, and, bingo, you see what you need to see.

Anyway, the cost and the high usage makes calendars a great way to spread information about your company.  The fact that people keep them (and your message/logo) for one full year before they discard them, makes them awesome.

Just keep in mind that who you’re giving them to and why.  Because people keep business calendars at work and personal calendars at home, most likely on a wall in the kitchen.

Let’s consider personalized coffee mugs.  Some 50% of Americans drink coffee, which means there’s an awful lot of people who’ll find a way to use your mugs.  If you’re clever, you’ll use coffee mugs together with coasters.

You send personalized coasters with an invitation to your trade show, conference, sale, or whatever event you have in mind.  On the invitation you promise them an additional, mystery gift, when they arrive.  The mystery gift will be a personalized coffee mug.  Without going into the details of studies, this tandem approach greatly increases results.

You can do this tandem promotional products marketing with other products too, like personalized pens and note pads – any two products that normally go together.

As far as personalized coffee mugs go, on average, people keep them for 6.6 months, use them at least once a day, and you get over 1,200 impressions from them.  Unlike pens, USB drives and other products, they have large (relatively) personalization areas.

Their cost per impression, the number of impressions, the size of the personalization area and the fact that they can be easily used as a mystery gift in a tandem products promotion puts personalized coffee mugs in the great corporate gift ideas group.

Promotional bags fall in the great corporate gift ideas for six reasons:
a.    rather inexpensive, per item ($3)
b.    very cheap, per impression ($0.001)
c.    almost universally useful
d.    large number of impressions (over 7,000)
e.    most have huge personalization area
f.    have a great impact on the user and on the people the user comes into contact with.

No matter what corporate gift ideas you consider, never forget that the main reason people keep promotional products is usefulness.  In other words, every time you think of useful promotional products you’ve come up with great corporate gift ideas.
