The BSc public health practice course at the University of Southampton is designed to develop your knowledge and skills to lead and provide evidence-based public health practice.

There are two pathways on this undergraduate public health practice course: the generic pathway and the specialist community nursing pathway.

The generic pathway is suitable for any person already working in a public health environment, whereas the specialist pathway is designed for practising nurses or midwives who wish to gain a specialist community qualification.

Both BSc public health practice course pathways are offered on a full-time or part-time basis and require you to be in practice. This programme is not available to international students.

Students studying on this degree course in public health practice are expected to complete the programme in one year full time or up to five years part time, depending on their chosen pathway.

The BSc public health practice course aims to provide the knowledge, skills and understanding to analyse and improve population health. 

This could be through developing systems or projects to address health determinants, helping people to improve their own health, or ensuring that health services improve people’s health generally.

The specialist community nursing pathway on this public health practice course is funded through NHS sponsorship and is only available through pre-purchased NHS contracted places.

University applications can be made between January and March each year, but places will depend on the acquisition of NHS sponsorship.
