The University
of Southampton’s PGDip postgraduate nursing diploma endeavours to enable
students to become knowledgeable, skilful and competent practitioners in their
chosen nursing field.
Students should be critically conscious of problems and developments in the
profession and be capable of proposing and progressing fresh ideas that advance
the evidence-led basis of nursing practice.
Once enrolled on this postgraduate nursing diploma, students will select which
field of practice they wish to follow, from: child nursing adult nursing or
mental health nursing. And, once graduated from this postgraduate nursing
diploma, course leavers will have acquired the skills and knowledge to provide
high-quality care.
Children's nurses look after young people and children with healthcare needs,
and also provide their families with support. Adult nurses care for people who
have acute and critical healthcare needs, or palliative and long term
requirements. Mental health nurses look
after people with mental health problems, helping them live as normal lives as
is possible.
On this postgraduate diploma in nursing, academic modules are entrenched inside
six blocks of study, which, in addition, give students a whole range of learning
opportunities that are grounded in practical experience.
The PGDip begins in February and is a modular postgraduate course for graduates
with a degree classification of 2:2 or above in a social science or health
subject. The programme is typically undertaken over two academic years of
full-time study.
To register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council graduates must have passed
both the practical and theoretical assessments that take place throughout the
course.
An increasing range of postgraduate-level options are offered by the University
of Southampton. These are carefully designed to fit the needs of employers and
professional bodies.
