CDF traders 'should exercise caution'

Individuals who want to enjoy success from their efforts at contract for difference (CFD) trading should ensure they proceed with caution, it has been claimed.

An article on CountingPips by IG Markets suggested that there are certain risks involved in the discipline and therefore it is vital that people do not make foolish decisions.

The firm stated: "CFDs are leverage products. As such they come with inherent risks. A person venturing into it must fully understand what he or she is getting into. Otherwise, there is always the risk of making wrong moves and losing a lot of money.

"Therefore, investors need to proceed with caution and try not to go overboard with the investment."

However, the organisation went on to note that because of the low investments required, CFD trading enables investors to have a diverse portfolio, which is "very important" for such people.

Indeed, the company went on to note that most of those keen to make money on the markets in this way seek varied portfolios that can fetch them good returns.

Talking about CDFs, it pointed out that they are a "recent development" in the sector and are used to invest in instruments such as stocks and shares, forex, commodities like gold and oil and exchange traded funds.

It added: "The advantage of CFD trading over others is that here the buyer need to invest only a certain percentage of the cost of the item to make the purchase."

When selling, the investor gets the difference in price, which lets them invest in many items at the same time as the entire costs need not be borne by the individual at the outset of the transaction.

Because of benefits such as this, CDFs are now one of the world's fastest growing trading products and this trend show no immediate sign of abating.
