Guru Nanak Jayanti is observed to memorialize the birth of Guru Nanak, the founding father of Sikh relgion. It is celebrated as Gurupurab, remarkably known as the day of Guru Nanak birth. On this day Golden Temple, Swarn Mandir is full decorated with lights & flowers.
Guru Nanak,
who was the very first Sikh gurus for Sikhs therefore it is recommended as one
of the most important & holy festivals within the north Indian’s Sikhs. It
is believed that the Sikh festivals revolve around the sphere of their 10 Sikh
Gurus, who where the pillars of molding the mind stage, mentality of Sikh’s to
have faith in their religion.
The founder
of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Devji, where born in the year 1469. This day falls on
Kartik Poornima & is considered as holy day for all Indian Sikhs. Guru
Nanak Jayanti usually falls on different dates mostly in the month of November,
as per Indian calendar.
Celebrations
for the day start one day prior to the actual day. Devotees begin their day, by
visiting religious temple – Gurudwaras, singing around sweet melodious prayers
& devotional songs. On the actual day of Guru Nanak Jayanti, speeches are
given by Gurus, whereas Akhand path is read in Gurudwaras to make people
understand the importance of Guru Nanak Jayanti & his words. Guru Granth
Sahib which is considered as holy book of Sikhs is read in gurudwaras along
with some bhajans, devotional songs. Serving food through open food counters
(Buffet) or special sitting arrangement in gurudwaras are arranged for the all
the devotees who visit the temple for prayers. Slogan of Sikh’s “Wahe Guru ji da Khalsa Wahe guru ji di fateh”, “jo bole so nihal sat sri akal”
are announced to make understand people the importance of the holy words of
Guru Nanak.
Since it is
considered the most important & sacred Sikh festival, individuals also go
for Sikh
Marriage, Sikh Shaadi, some gets engaged. Parents acting as matchmaker try
to find out perfect Life Partner for the children from the devotees. Youngsters
do get together; grow their friendship, takes oath to grow their Sikh community
& help others in society. Some people also begin with some property deal,
or begin with new business or any other activity which could give them
prosperity & peace in life.
Sikh people
visit their relatives, friends to wish them for the day. Now a day’s people
send Guru Nanak Jayanti messages, greetings for Guru Nanak Jayanti to wish
their close one Happy Jayanti or Happy Guru Nanak Jayanti.
