Android Development, Browsers and the Adappt Compiler

Brief History:-
2005  Google took control (purchased) Android Inc (who had developed the original software)
2007 the Android Distribution consortium, called the Open Handset Alliance was 'unveiled' by Google, consisting of 84 software, hardware & telecommunications groups. The code was then released using a free software licence (the Apache License).

The Android Opensource Project (AOSP) aims were stated, which are to ensure continuous development of 'Android' and all things connected with it.

Now in 2011 things are really moving:-
Kobo has a tablet (android based) called the Kobo Vox eReader, and it competes with iPad2 and Kindle.
The number of Android Apps moves through the 500,000 mark, they are easily downloaded from online stores or third party sites.
Motorola Mobility introduces the thinner Smartphone ‘android Razr’
Samsung ChatOn now rivals BBM ‘android instant messaging’
India unveils a Rs 1,500 ($30) tablet PC
Android Speech Translation operating in real time now includes 14 languages
Android applications now run on a PC via BlueStacks
Android sales are better than Apple 2:1
Google and Intel are working on Android phones with a planned release date in early 2012.
The LG Optimus Note is the groups fourth dual-core Android

By the end of 2011, it is estimated there will be nearly 200 million android devices, with many major smart phone manufacturing companies now producing Android based devices

What is Android?
It has a kernel based on the Linux kernel, with libraries etc., written in C and able to run on Java compatible libraries.

Android Developers can more easily obtain the technology for building apps than their iPad or BlackBerry counterparts. Android development can take advantage of the Java Development Tools that come with Eclipse. This is a software development environment written mostly in Java and consisting of an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) with ‘plug ins’ that allow other programming languages to be used, e.g. Cobol, C, C++,  PHP, Perl, R, Ruby, Python etc.

Android Development And Compilers for Mobile Internet
HTML has evolved to become HTML5, and works on every internet browser. Using HTML5 for mobile websites is quite exceptional, allowing optimisations and cost efficiencies, it offers an even greater advantage.  Because it is 'a common unifying language', an application coded in HTML5 can be compiled and then cross compiled so that it is suitable for any mobile internet device i.e. using compilers like adappt, Titanium and Phonegap, the apps work on a variety of operating systems, e.g. the iOS (iPhone), Android, Windows mobile and BlackBerry.

Conclusion
HTML5 has raised the world of mobile application development to a new level; it allows significant price reductions if the app is to run on more than just one operating system. An application for several operating systems is only coded once and is then cross-compiled. Android development based on HTML5 and the use of compilers produce applications that run on a number of smart phone operating systems. It also reduces the cost of maintaining applications in the future.
