Choosing a Fort Lauderdale Plastic Surgery Expert

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is the
largest organization of plastic surgeons in the world with thousands of
surgeons as members.  And according to
them, there are certain things you should look for in a plastic surgeon,
whether you’re thinking about having a South Florida rhinoplasty, or a South
Florida breast enhancement.  Plastic
surgery procedures should be taken seriously, and the ASPS recommends that when
you’re looking for one, you verify the following with each of your potential
surgeons.  

• Your plastic surgeon should have at least 5
  years of training in surgery, with a least 2 of those years in plastic surgery
  training.

• You should only work with a plastic surgeon that
  operates from an accredited medical facility.

• You should ensure that your plastic surgeon
  participates in the continuing education requirements dictated by his
  profession. 

• You should never work with a plastic surgeon that
  is not certified by either The American Board of Plastic Surgery or in Canada,
  the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

• Your surgeon should adhere to the accepted code
  of ethics.

In addition to checking into the plastic surgeon’s
credentials and ethics, there are some questions that you should ask the Fort
Lauderdale plastic surgery expert before you hire them.  They are:

• Are you certified with the American Board of
  Plastic Surgery?

• Are you an active member of the American Society
  of Plastic Surgeons?

• How many years have you been practicing plastic
  surgery?

• How many years of your training did you spend specifically
  in plastic surgery?

• Which hospital will you use to perform my
  surgery, and do you have privileges there? 
  What other hospitals do you have privileges at?

• Are you state-licensed or Medicare certified?

•  How many procedures like mine have you done in
  the past?  For instance, if you’re having
  South Florida breast enhancement done, ask how many of those surgeries he has
  completed.

• Is there anything that makes me a poor candidate
  for this procedure?

• Are there any risks I should know about
  associated with this surgery?

• If there are complications, how will you handle
  them?  Will I understand what to do in
  advance?

•  How long will I take to recover?  Will I need a family member or friend to stay
  with me during this time?

• What happens if I’m not pleased with the results
  of my surgery?

• Can you show me before and after photos of
  surgeries that you’ve done that are comparable with what I’m having done? For
  instance, if you’re having South Florida rhinoplasty done, ask to see before
  and after photos of former patients whose features are similar to yours.
