A garden hose is something that most people with a garden will have. But as this article shows, it is vitally important to take good care of it on a regular basis. If you don’t it won’t last as long as it should do.
Do you have a garden hose? If you do,
do you look after it and check it regularly for damage or wear and
tear? Just like most things in life it won’t last forever, but you
can prolong its life by performing some simple checks and taking good
care of it while you have it.
One of the most important things to
think about is where you keep it. Some hoses come on a reel that can
be attached to the wall or simply sat on the ground. This enables you
to get out the amount of hose you need, use it, and then put it away
safely again. This kind of system means that there is less chance of
tripping over a hose, because it should always be put back
properly.
Even though garden hoses are made to
last, they can perish more quickly if they are not looked after. For
example the Hose Fittings might
get damaged, especially if the hose isn’t put away. You might
accidentally stand on it or trip over it, causing damage to you and
the hose as you do so. Fortunately you can get replacement hose
fittings to sort out the problem, so this kind of
incident doesn’t necessarily mean your garden hose will be damaged
beyond use.
Get into the habit of checking your
garden hose regularly to see if there has been any damage to it. One
thing you should be aware of that can cause problems is twisting in
the hose itself. If this occurs you should untwist it as soon as you
spot the problem. Otherwise the act of turning on the water could
result in a blocked hose. Keep it in good condition by coiling it
back up naturally once you have finished using it each time.
If you do spot perished fittings or
clips, make sure you take the perished ones off and replace them as
soon as you can. stainless fittings
can be a good idea as they are strong and long lasting.
Make sure you get exact replacements so the new stainless
fittings will be the right ones for the job. If in
doubt, measure them to get the exact size.
During the summer months it is
virtually impossible to do without a garden hose. Assuming there is
no hosepipe ban in place you can look forward to using it to keep
your plants watered on a daily basis. This can keep your garden
looking good even during very hot weather.
So make sure you keep an eye on your
garden hose and make any repairs necessary in time for when you will
need it the most. This could be one of the best things to do in your
garden this year.
