This articles goes over Ebay rules and policies and what you are not allowed to sell in an auction.
Ebay is an absolute cash machine for sellers, because it has over 100 million registered users who are predominantly buyers. So it is quite understandable that you would want to hop on this lucrative gravy train. However, before you take your first big splash as a seller on Ebay, there are a few things you need to know in order to safeguard your entrepreneurial career as a participant in the Ebay universe.

Ebay is in fact a world of it's own with a number of rules and policies you must abide by as a member or you will find your account suspended or possibly permanently terminated. Here are a few of the rules and policies.

Vero stands for verified rights owner. These are intellectual property owners who are given the right by Ebay to report an item that infringes upon their intellectual rights. If a vero member believes that their rights have been violated by an Ebay member, they can cancel the auction of that particular seller. For example, if you list a product from Nike and if Nike decides that this isn't an authentic product, they have the right to cancel your auction. If you list these type of infringing items repeatedly, your account will be suspended.

Some of the top companies in the world are Vero members and they constantly monitor auctions for potentially infringing items. The thing that is draconian about this particular policy is that the item in question may be legitimate. Even though this could be the case, Ebay still gives the Vero member full authority to cancel the auction.

Shill Bidding. Shill bidding basically involves sellers bidding on their own auction or having someone that they know bid on their auction without any intention of winning. Shill bidding involves inflating the final price of an item. This is totally against Ebay rules and will result in the suspension and termination of an account.

Offers to sell outside of Ebay. As a seller or a buyer you can not make an offer to buy or sell an item outside of Ebay. This is because the buyer became aware of the item through Ebay. Attempting to solicit this type of transaction through the Ebay system will result in possible limits on account privileges, listing cancellation, or even worse account suspension.

Ebay does not allow certain items to be auctioned through their website Some of these items include

Services. Services can not be listed in an auction simply because they are not an item.

Copies of DVDs, CDs, or software. These items are illegal and a violation of copyright laws.

Replicas. A replica is a knock off version of a designer item.

Animals or reptiles- The sale of animals and reptiles are strictly prohibited.

Alcoholic beverages, weapons and firearms, and all tobacco products are prohibited.

This is just a brief overview of the rules and policies and what is not allowed on Ebay. Before you begin your selling endeavors, I suggest you navigate the Ebay site to familiarize yourself with the rules and polices. In addition, it is imperative that you read the user agreement. User agreements spell out your rights as a member and explains what you are liable for in the event that something goes wrong.
