New York boasts an eclectic array of fantastic neighborhoods, read about some of the greatest here.
New York
and more specifically Manhattan
is home to some of the most diverse and unique neighborhoods around. No matter
what you want you are guaranteed to find it in one of these awesome
neighborhoods.
NoLita
Until a little
while ago this magnificent New York
neighborhood didn’t even exist. Located slap bang in the middle of Little
Italy, the Lower East Side and SoHo this tiny
neighborhood is awash with gorgeous boutiques, galleries, treasure filled
second hand shops and restaurants featuring an eclectic array of sensational tastes.
The Flatiron District
Famous
for its 20-story, Flatiron building, Flatiron
District includes a number of boutiques, retail shops and stores. The area
is considered one of the popular shopping districts.
Located between Chelsea and Gramercy the Flatiron District takes its name from
the leading attraction, the magnificent
20 storey Flatiron
Building. This is one
of New York’s
trendiest neighborhoods due to the many clubs, bars and restaurants. The gothic
architecture which is prevalent throughout the neighborhood is a must see.
While you’re there visit Flatiron Building, Gramercy Park, the New York Public Library and
the Empire State Building.
Chinatown
Boasting
the largest population of Chinese-Americans in the country, Chinatown
is a must visit for travelers interested
in the exotic. This New York
neighborhood comes alive in January as it celebrates the Chinese New Year in
full regal. For traditional Asian fare, street markets and specialty oriental
stores you won’t find better than Chinatown.
Little Italy
Located directly next to Chinatown, lies a little slice of Italy. Little Italy sports some of New York’s most gorgeous cafes and
restaurants and it goes without saying… the food here is supreme. If you’re a fan of Mafioso movies Little
Italy is a must visit as several scenes from the Godfather and several other
Mafioso movies were shot here.
Midtown
Midtown New York is separated
into its eastern and western halves by the prestigious Fifth Avenue. Midtown East which includes the fashionable neighborhood of Murray
Hill is renowned for its excellent shopping opportunities, restaurants and
fantastic attractions. So if shopping at Hermès, a trip to the architecturally
splendid Chrysler Building and dining on sushi or pizza before heading off to
the MoMA appeals to you, Midtown East is a must visit as far as New York neighborhoods
go.
Midtown West is New York’s
heart when it comes of the business, shopping, entertainment and tourism
sectors of New York.
On a trip around Midtown West be sure to visit the eclectic neighborhoods of Hell's Kitchen and Clinton. A melting
pot of cultures, races, religions and tastes – NYC neighborhood is a treat for
every kind of visitor to the Big Apple.
Greenwich Village
Greenwich
Village is divided into the East and West
Villages by Broadway and is
undoubtedly New York’s
most arty neighborhood. If it is poetry readings, smoky jazz bars or punk rock clubs Greenwich
Village will suite you down to the ground. As it’s the home of NYU
there are plenty of rocking night spots, pizza and beer joints and cafes here
too. Greenwich Village truly has something for
everyone.
SoHo
SoHo is New York’s hippest
hotspot renowned for magnificent pavement art, studios, galleries and arty
cafes. At night the neighborhood is
alive with vibrance and color – a trip out to one of the trendiest
restaurants or bars should not be missed.
Chelsea
Looking
for New York’s
prettiest neighborhood? Visit the oh so posh Chelsea on your next visit to the Big Apple.
Home to the Chelsea Piers, Union
Square and Madison
Square Park;
Chelsea boast a
thriving gay scene and a wide array of restaurants, theatres and nightclubs. Another
of its charms is that it is slap bang in the middle of New York’s garment district – shopping here is a treat.
Upper West and East Sides
The Upper West Side
is renowned for its cosmopolitan atmosphere as well as its charm. Far more laid
back than the Upper East Side it is popular
amongst executives and young families. Shopping at Zabars, Fairway Market, Hugo
Boss, Morgenthal Frederics Eyewear and Crabtree & Evelyn is a treat and the
Lincoln Center, the Children's Museum of Manhattan and New York Historical
Society will take care of your more cultural needs.
Home to
some of the wealthiest citizens in New York the Upper East Side is exceptionally trendy and is the place to go if
you’re interested in some serious shopping, and with outlets such as Barneys,
Madison Avenue and Bloomingdales its easy to see why.
Tribeca
Just west
of SoHo lies the equally trendy Tribeca and
its galleries, markets and amazing clubs. As New York’s publishing district this
neighborhood is home to several bookstores and so many restaurants that you’ll
have difficulty choosing.
Each NYC neighborhood
is distinctly unique and boasts its own attractions, only a few of them have been
discussed here. In fact there are so many neighborhoods in New York it may take you a few trips to the
Big Apple to visit them all.
