To suffer from a hernia actually means that a small portion of your intestine bulges through the weakest spot that is situated in your abdomen

To suffer from a hernia actually means that a small portion of your intestine bulges through the weakest spot that is situated in your abdomen. There can be several types of hernia, like inguinal hernia.

The inguinal hernia takes place in your groin area, which is the part between your thigh and abdomen. The name inguinal hernia actually describes what happens, that is to say that your intestine bulge through the weakest spot in your inguinal canal. To be more precise, the inguinal hernia takes place in the triangle- like opening that is found between layers of your abdominal muscles. There are a few factors that increase the risk of hernia. Pregnancy, obesity or even heavy lifting, all can contribute to a hernia.

Inguinal hernia can be discovered due to the symptoms that appear when suffering from this hernia. Some of the hernia symptoms are:
- a lump in your groin area, just near the thigh is a very good indicator of inguinal hernia;
- blockage of your intestine can also signal an inguinal hernia, but a more severe case of hernia;
- pain in the groin area, where the lump is situated is another of the hernia symptoms;

In hernia cases, even inguinal hernia, the most used treatment is actually surgery. In inguinal hernia cases, your doctor uses surgery, because the opening in the muscle must be closed. The surgery used in cases of inguinal hernia is called herniorrhapy. There are also cases when the hernia patients must also have their muscle walls reinforced. In these hernia cases the walls must be reinforced with wire or even steel mesh. Furthermore, there are also cases of inguinal hernia when the intestine can become twisted or even trap stool. In this case of a hernia, removal is a must. Do not worry, though, only a part of your intestine will be removed in this hernia case. This hernia surgery is named bowel restriction. This particular name is given to this hernia surgery, because as many of you know, bowel is a synonym for intestine.

Diagnosing a hernia, even inguinal hernia is simple. all that your doctor has to do is start with a physical exam. This exam will  tell him/ her a lot about your hernia. The nest step in proper diagnosing a hernia is also to take some x- rays and blood tests. The last two will help him/ her verify if there is any blockage in the intestine from the hernia.
