The most effective way to fight gum disease is to prevent it. Know how you can prevent it and keep your beautiful smile for years to come.
To understand gum disease prevention, it is important to understand what gum disease is. First of all, it doesn’t just hurt people who are your grandparent’s age. Teenagers and young adults can get gum disease too because there are so many contributing factors. Sometimes the problems can be as severe as bleeding, pain, and tooth loss. Then again, some of the symptoms may only go as far as bad breath. That can be quite embarrassing. The proper name for gum disease is Periodontal disease, which is an infection that affects the bones that support the teeth and of the gums. When untreated, the condition can become quite severe. Bleeding is usually the first sign, which is something to not be ignored. It is natural to bleed after hard brushing or flossing, but anytime the gums bleed for abnormal reasons, it is time to get some help. If ignored, the teeth can actually become loose and fall out. You don’t want this to happen because teeth aren’t just to make you look good, but teeth are important in your overall existence. What causes gum disease? You have to know the causes to know how gum disease prevention works. First of all, it is caused by plaque buildup. It is that sticky stuff that forms on your teeth and gums and it is filled with germs. The bacteria contained within plaque produces toxins that irritate the gums. That irritation later leads to damage. You know the damage has started when you start seeing your gums become red and irritated. They may swell and eventually bleed. Gum disease can affect the area around one tooth or all of your teeth. But know that one tooth being affected is going to eventually lead to more teeth being affected. That’s why you need to do something about it as soon as you see it starting. What you are doing is stopping the progression of it and exercising gum disease prevention for the rest of your mouth. How to treat and prevent gum disease First of all, pay close attention to your gums. Gum disease can be quite sneaky because it starts attacking your gums before you even notice the symptoms. You can actually have gum disease and not know it, which is why you should exercise gum disease prevention. It is never too late to start. As for how to treat and prevent gum disease, the steps are more or less the same: • Brush at least twice each day • Floss regularly • Use a fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash • See your dentist every six months • Use a product such as Nature’s Smile to help in gum disease prevention and treatment. Exercising all of these steps will help you escape the horrors of gum disease and what it can do to your smile. Treatment and prevention will also keep you from having pain when you eat and from dealing with eventual tooth loss. It doesn’t have to happen, so start doing something about it now.
