Sometimes we recommend getting back to basics by removing the old stained scratched and worn wood baseboard and using a two piece baseboard with a decorative cap painted white to accent the whole room.  It can be as simple as putting together two or more pieces of molding, say a rounded, convex piece at the bottom of the four to- six-inch flat board and a recessed or concave piece on top.
