Autumn’s most beautiful knitwear

Tabards are the new shape for Autumn and provide the big knitwear story for Autumn/Winter 08. These chunky texture reflect the trend towards greater volume in knitwear, and the batwing sleeves flatter all. Some styles come with button detail on the shoulders and arm for added interest, and look particularly good with knee length skirts and blouses in bold, contrasting colour. Or there’s also a grey block colour version which gives a subtle nod to the eighties trend and should be worn with simple black trousers or a miniskirt.

Through clever use of necklines the knitwear collection also aims to flatter the figure. Belted turtle-necks elongate the body and nip the waist in, worn with black slimline trousers they’re the ultimate Audrey Hepburn piece. Or, for dressier occasions, the wide-necked bardot styles will show off stunning necklaces. 

The gorgeous cardigans are set to become versatile favourites.  As well as going with everything, they’ll introduce exciting new colours and shapes to Autumnal wardrobes. Styles that are set to become seasonal bestsellers include the brown double breasted cardigan,  wine crochet button cardigan, and the range of nautical, wrap and ruched styles.     

For elegant evening cover-ups the gold and silver lurex shrugs are a dramatic way to inject some studio 54 glamour into evening outfits, just slip one over a favourite LBD.  Feminine touches such as frills, corsages and tie-fronts have been added to the remaining range of shrugs and boleros, so night time knit wear becomes just as irresistible as day wear.

On sunny Autumn days much of the knitwear that can also double up as outerwear. Wear these warm knits instead of a jacket, they look fantastic over jeans or with thick tights and short skirts.

The most important rule is to remember the big belt to cinch everything in and keep the silhouette looking enviably hourglass. Cocoon yourself in cosy tape cardigans and wraps, or add curves to your upper half with a ruffle wrap, adding a stylish scarf or some ladylike leather gloves in bright colours for a modern day ‘lady of the manor’ look.
