On
2nd December 2005, Department of Defense, which plays a critical
role in the identification marking of military properties of US made amendment on
MIL-STD-130 L and thus a new standard entitled MIL-STD-130 M, was generated.
The
standard is mandated by all Department Agencies as well as Defense Department.
The issue of MIL-STD-130M standard enables product designers to develop their
products in alignment with the criteria set by the standard. Merely setting the
definition of product in accordance with the standard may not be adequate. Beginning
from the size of the product, whole application process, the geographic
location of the product the product designers have to take care of everything
to be able to satisfy the criteria. Also Item identification marking is also
important for the product designers. The Item Identification marking should
have the supplier name and a Personal Identification number (PIN) for the item that
has been marked.
In
comparison to MIL-STD-130L, this new standard has been set in a described
manner so as to able to offer better guidance. Non-Government standards are
maintained for machine-readable information or MRI which is a critical tool for
asset management for life-cycle products. However the standard also stresses on
free text item identification marking.
The
section 3 of the standard specifies certain engineering documentation terms that
might not go in keeping with the American Identification languages, though
every aspect has been addressed. This section has been primarily set up to assist
product designers for offering a lucid definition about the items created for
military.
It
is obligatory to show the purchase order number and the contract number while
acquiring for a particular product from the Government acquiring agencies.
