Suleiman, the sultan, was attracted not by the beauty of his new concubine, - they have completely different standards, - but by her charm and unusual mind and education. In this moment Roksolana was absolutely different from the rest of harem inhabitants. Very soon the young Ukrainian woman became one of his favorites, and after a while – the only one. Even after several years of relationship Suleiman wrote letters and poems full of tenderness to his Ukrainian lover.

Of course, Roksolana had to fight for her love. And the best way to conquer in this war was to become the one who her beloved could trust completely. And Roksolana-Anastasia became the most devoted servant of her sovereign even in state and political business. Being a bright personality and a smart woman, the daughter of Ukrainian priest deserved deep respect from many noble people serving Suleiman. With their help she could influence the male world of Ottoman Empire in order to keep, strengthen and protect the power of her beloved in the periods of his military journeys. Being devoted, Roksolana had even changed her religion, and it was unbelievable step for a Christian girl of those times. But love was more important for her than anything else in the world.

Suleiman appreciated this devotedness and faithfulness, and after rather long period of relationship he married his beloved woman and a true friend Roksolana. It was the first precedent of sovereign’s marriage in the history of Ottoman Empire.
