Those shopping for new washing machines should consider the range of items boasting the latest in steam technology, according to one expert.
Canadian
publication the Globe and Mail states a number of front-loading models are now
available that can greatly reduce levels of water and energy use by employing
steam systems.
Warrington Ellacott, senior manager of government relations for Whirlpool in Canada, told
the site that those purchasing such appliances could also expect greater
capacity as well as less damage to their clothes.
He added that steam laundry systems "can remove odours, sanitize clothes,
and there's little or no ironing so you save time, too."
It was also noted in the article that modern dishwashers "use 95 per cent less water than those of
30 years ago and allow for reduced energy in heating and drying".
A number of Whirlpool's kitchen appliances use the manufacturer's own brand of
steam technology – which it calls the 6th Sense system..
