Buying a motor home...

Motor homes, campers and recreational vehicles (RV’s), are becoming more and more popular with all segments of the population.

While the RV motor home is used mostly for travelling and leisure, there are some who decide to make an RV their home. For example, RVs are becoming more popular with the retired segment of the US population.

Whether you choose to make an RV your main home or only use it for travel, you will want it to be as reliable as possible. You do not want your home on wheels to leave you stranded on a freeway or back road.

RVs should be built to run many miles. The reason most people buy them is to drive long distances. When you are shopping for a motor home you need to like the style, size and comfort level of it but most importantly you need to find one that is dependable.

If you are buying a used vehicle, follow the same procedures you would when buying a used car. Checking the complete service records is a good idea as the service records should show where there have been problems and perhaps point out problems which may crop up in future.

If you are comfortable with the service records then check the mileage. If you plan on driving cross country you will want a motor home that has a lot of life left in it. Low mileage can be a good thing but not if the RV sat for a long time after being used. Find out how often it was driven.

Once you have done this and are still impressed remember to make sure you can afford it. This includes finding out such factors as car insurance rates. Take into consideration that there are some great deals on motor insurance available and compare the market to find a car insurance policy which suits your pocket.  If everything checks out and is affordable then hop the driver’s seat and enjoy the ride!
