If she is old enough, ask her what colours she would prefer, and let her get involved with the new decorations. Some children may prefer pinks and pastels, while others may prefer bright primary colours. Butterfly themes work in any colour, so don’t let her choice of shade put a spanner in the works.

Most redecorating is minor, but if you plan to do any major remodelling, you should inform your home insurance provider. If your insurer has not been informed of your new additions to the house, or any remodelling, then this will not be covered by your home insurance, should some disaster strike.

A good foundation for a butterfly theme is a pale green carpet and pastel blue walls. This forms the perfect “meadow” as a backdrop to the butterflies. There are many butterfly stencils available at craft and decor stores; these can be used to stencil pretty shapes and colours onto the walls. Alternatively, pretty and easy to apply stickers are also available from many stores.

Coordinate the fabrics to incorporate the theme. Curtains, bedding, towels and cushions can all be bought with a butterfly theme, but be careful not to overdo this theme, as it can become quite overwhelming if too many butterflies and too many colours are used.

Choose a workable colour scheme and add pretty, but practical, features and your child will be able to play and grow in this butterfly themed bedroom for many years to come.
