Homeowners looking to cut their energy bills this winter have been advised that now could be the time to invest in draught proofing.
A
spokesperson for the Energy Saving Trust, a non-profit group which advises on
saving money and making homes and businesses greener, said that draught
proofing can add up to a £25 annual saving on energy.
Paula Owen, energy doctor at the organisation, said that in addition to simple
measures that include keeping doors and windows closed, insulation was key to
making the most of an energy-efficiency drive in the home.
"The biggest savings can be gained from installing insulation as around
half of heat loss in a typical un-insulated home is through the walls and
loft," she advised.
Ms Owen added that cavity wall insulation was "one of the most
cost-effective" measures a homeowner can undertake, saving an average of
£120 on heating bills.
Installing an energy-efficient boiler
can also be a great way to ensure that a home is running at its most efficient.
