What good is website traffic if it doesn’t generate cash? Here are some tips to make it all work.
If you have seen my other articles, then you already know
how through providing great content and using basic SEO techniques, you can
drive large amounts of traffic to your blog. At the end of the day, however,
what’s the use of getting traffic if it’s not generating cash for you? OK, some
people blog for fun (I don’t know them personally), but for more and more
people, it is looked at as a source of income. Therefore, we are always looking
for ways to wring out money from our blogs.
Before addressing that, I feel that it is important to say
that I see nothing ethically or morally wrong with making money from blogs. For
some reason it rubs people the wrong way – they feel that the blogosphere is a
pristine place that should be uncluttered by the billboards of commerce. But I
look at it this way: The products I offer on my blogs are targeted to the
interests of the readers. Therefore, the readers are not being bombarded with
ads for products in which they have no interest, but items I think will
compliment their interests.
So now let's look some of the ways you can extract money
from your blog:
1. Google Adsense
This is the tried and true classic way to earn a little
money that still works for many bloggers. Because Adsense is so easy to deploy
on your site and because the general quality and relevance of the ads is high,
there is a lot of earning potential. It is extremely unlikely; however, this
Adsense income will allow you to quit your day job.
2. Affiliate Program Commissions
Generating affiliate income from your blog can be a great
idea. (For those of you who are new, you can earn commissions by putting a link
from your blog to a product and if a visitor clicks on the link and buys the
product, you get a commission; sometimes a significant commission.)
The number of products that you can promote as an affiliate
is HUGE. And in some cases the commissions amount to a significant share of the
revenue, sometimes up to 100%. Because there are so many possible products that
you can promote, be sure to pick individual products to promote based on
individual posts. The more highly targets your products are to your blog
content, the higher your revenue will be. And here’s a tip: Don't just throw
one product in the sidebar of your blog. It’s better t to talk about the
product (or the product category) in your blog so that your readers get some
valuable information along with the opportunity to purchase the product.
3. Sell Advertising Space
Just as you can make money from Adsense on your blog, you can
directly sell advertising space on your blog. Of course, there needs to be
substantial, targeted traffic to your blog in order for you to attract media
buyers. In addition, advertisers will want to know exact demographics of your
average blog readers, such as their age, location and reading habits how long
they stay on your site and what they respond to in terms of your content and
other ads. (Makes Adsense seem pretty easy.)
You can get demographic information by going to Quantcast
(www.quantcast.com) and using their scripts to extract all of this data from
your blog, which you can then show to interested buyers of ad space on your
blog.
These are just three of the ways that you can extract cash
from your site. Each of these methods will require more training in order for
you to reach your maximum profit potential; however, they are a great start.
And the more you look into the possibilities, the more you will learn about the
possibilities.
