Understanding Stress
A long time ago the fight
or flight response came in handy when we had to run from cheetahs, or protect
our food source from a nearby tribe. If something dangerous is happening, your
body will produce a chemical reaction to let you know that you need to run away
or quickly react - the “fight or flight” response. Nowadays most of us
experience this same fight or flight response when sitting in traffic, waiting
in line at Starbucks, or having a heated discussion.
Any good health
professional will tell you that a constant dumping of adrenaline or cortisol in
the body can be extremely damaging. It can cause all sorts of health problems
including physical dysfunction, sleep deprivation, headaches, high blood
pressure, heart problems, diabetes, skin conditions, cancer, asthma, arthritis,
brain fog, anxiety and depression to name just a few.
If you are suffering from
frequent severe stress in your life, it’s time you made some changes. Here are
a few suggestions that you incorporate into your life right away.
Exercise regularly. We all
know that exercise does wonders for the body and mind. Set aside at least
twenty-minutes a day to do some form of physical activity.
