Trade show marketing can be a very successful method of marketing your product or service, but it will only be successful if you have a "spectacular" trade show booth (or at the very least, spectacularly effective). If you create a design that does the following three things, it will do its job and be effective.
First, to begin with, you've got to get their attention. Your booth is just one of many that people will walk by - it is the proverbial needle in a haystack. A big, bold, "in your face" background picture will almost always take care of this first step.

Third and finally, your design must tell people WWIFT (what's in it for them). This is a critical part of having a "spectacularly" effective design. People will stop and talk if you can clearly explain how you can make their lives easier. For example, if you are a marketing firm, you might say how many new customers you can get them. Whatever you do, remember to tell people how you can help them - this is the most important part of any effective design.
