Entirely new, different and innovative approach has been used in the VXA backup tape format, which has proved to be the most reliable and efficient recording technique. VXA tape format has 4-level correction system for checking and removing errors.
Tape
drives based on the helical scan and linear technologies use “streaming”
technique for transferring data. In these tape drives the read head reads the
data in a single pass from the data tracks. The tape speed is fixed during the
read process. For achieving peak efficiency in these tape drives, it is
necessary that the buffer of the tape drive should be kept full by the host
system. VXA backup tape
format has incorporated a new innovative technique of “variable tape
speed”.
If
the SCSI bus is busy or the host system is slow, then the streaming may be
ceased in the helical scan & linear tape drives. In such situation the tape
drive is forced to reverse and then it again resumes the data writing
operation. This unfavorable and time delaying process is called back-hitching.
Back hitching not only affects the overall performance and efficiency of the
tape drive, but additional stress is also placed on the tape media. Highly
durable VXA data tapes with lifetime warranty are available. Contact

VXA
tape technology has the best solution to solve the back hitching problem. VXA
backup tape format has incorporated a new innovative technique of “variable
tape speed”. This technique matches the tape speed with that of the host
system. Therefore with the help of variable speed operation, the performance of
VXA tape drive is optimized and the unnecessary stress on the tape media is
also minimized. Entirely new, different and innovative approach has been used
in the VXA backup tape format, which has proved to be the most reliable and
efficient recording technique.
The
other tape formats use streaming data that comprise of long blocks. In VXA tape
technology, the data comprising of long strings is broken into smaller units of
data called data packets. Afterwards a wrapper is added to these data units for
their verification. This is called DPF (discrete packet format). The data
packets are comprised of data string. The discrete packet format allows the
data packets to move into the data buffer at different times where the data
packets are re-assembled to retrieve the data into its original form. Contact Tape4backup

Data
packet contains CRC (Cyclical Redundancy Check) code, unique address,
synchronization marker, ECC (Error Correction Code) and user data of 64
bytes. 387 data packets are contained in
each track. These packets are read and recorded through a buffer array. Two
sets of overlapped data tracks are recorded by 2 head pairs that are located on
the drum. Each pair’s first tape head writes the data while the other tape head
verifies the data integrity by reading the data after it has been written (read
after write). VXA tape format has 4-level correction system for checking and
removing errors. It has two phases. Reed Solomon ECC is added to each data
packet that enables it to correct and remove the small typical errors that can
be generated as a result of phase shifts or noise. Then all these packets are
moved into the buffer segment where an array is form that comprises of 3D Reed
Solomon ECC.
