There are plenty of things that you can do cut your energy usage around the home, that won't necessarily break the bank, and could lower the cost of your energy bills by quite some margin.
There are plenty of things that you can do cut your energy usage around the home, that won't necessarily break the bank, and could lower the cost of your energy bills by quite some margin. Here are just a few:

Low energy lighting - By installing just one energy saving light bulb, you will shave around 26kg off your carbon footprint, and save £7 off your annual energy bill. The range of low energy bulbs available today is better than ever before with producers having to cater to the growing demand for them, so you can now choose from a variety of shapes, tones, and sizes.

Replace your multi-bulbs - If you have any multi-bulb light fittings in your home, replacing them with a single bulb fitting should save you a substantial amount, and you don't won't be plunged into darkness as a result!

Say goodbye to the standby - Appliances on standby are far from switched off. In fact, appliances on standby still use a substantial amount of energy while that little red light is on. As well as the tv, turn anything off at the mains which has a big transformer plug, or any kind of light on it, be it a timer, clock or little LED.

Your kitchen appliances - Did you know that by simply reducing the temperature of your washing machine cycle, from 60 degrees to 40 degrees you could save up to a third of the electricity? And some washing powders are now available that can clean at temperatures of around 30 degrees, so you can turn your washing machine down even lower these days. If you have to use a tumble dryer, you'll save time and money by wringing out or spinning dry your clothes before tumble drying so they spend less time in the machine. Never position your fridge or freezer next to a cooker or radiator, as your fridge will have to work extra hard to keep cool, using up extra energy.

Look out for grade A's - Many appiance producers are now battling to design the most energy efficient appliances yet. All new electrical appliances on sale now have an energy efficiency rating, which should be clearly visible in any store you visit. The cleanest products are graded A, so look out for this seal of approval.

British Gas can help you to save money on a central heating installation. By replacing your old boiler with one of our central heating boilers such as the energy efficient range of Worcester boilers, you could save up to 40% on your bills.
