Breast Enlargement Size: Improvements Over The Rice Test

Plastic surgeons seem to be in agreement that women who have undergone breast augmentation are generally satisfied with the results.  However, recent studies also suggest that if a woman is dissatisfied it is primarily due to her choice of breast implant size. How is the plastic surgery field addressing this?

The general recommendation at this time seems to be the rice test.  This involves using a volume of rice comparable to that of an implant in a square little baggie, stuffed in your bra.  The results of the test give you a rough estimate of what your new breast size might look like. Unfortunately, the statistics have proven this test to be unreliable.

Fortunately, there have been some significant recent developments in the industry to help women make this important choice. There are several  plastic surgeons who are now offering digital imaging devices which can show the patient an image of her torso on a computer monitor with various breast sizes.  While not a perfect solution to the problem, digital imaging is a good improvement over before and after photos found on the internet.  The abilitity to see different breast implant sizes on one's own torso is definitely better than seeing photos of various breast sizes on a different woman's body.

Breast implant sizing systems are tester implants which allow patients to try out various breast implant sizes on their own time.  Previously, breast implant sizers were limited to the doctors office where a patient could try them out during the breast augmentation consultation.  While helpful, this method limited the patient to a brief consultation while trying them out perhaps in one piece of clothing. Take home breast sizers allow the patient to experience various breast implant sizes at home, on her own time.

It could be that we will begin seeing more satisfactory results in breast augmentation over a period time as women use a multitude of approaches.   The two-dimensional photos you find on the internet might be inspiring, but often misleading in terms of how a given size will look on your own body.   By trying on breast sizers in a variety of different clothes at home, women get the benefit of a multi-faceted approach. With recent light on the issue, I believe women will begin to take this issue more seriously.  Satisfactory results are more likely to occur when they take their time in making a good breast implant size decision.

I would suggest wearing a breast implant sizing system over a few weeks at a time in different breast implant sizes. By using different breast implant sizes you will eventually find a breast size that suits you best.  For example, you might try on a C cup one weekend, followed by a D cup the next weekend.  Wear the sizers at home, at work, or even out shopping for new clothes.  Take before and after photos of yourself wearing the implant sizers so that you can get a visual perspective of yourself with different breast sizes.  Make sure to try a few different angles and in different lighting.  This activity can especially be fun when done with a friend or significant other.

There are many advances over the rice test on the market today. If you are thinking about breast augmentation be sure to use all the options before making your final decision on breast implant size.  Take time and have fun.
