Internet data center services are used as hosting environments for businesses in global and emerging markets. A data center is basically a server farm where the facility houses many computer systems and associated components along with their communication and storage devices.

Many service providers are now offering remote data center hosting services along with disaster recovery capabilities to clients who are looking to reduce cost on the infrastructure and management aspects.

While looking to switch to IDC’s for a reliable service, here are some important points to consider:

    1. Technology used in the provider’s data centers

    2. Service Level Agreements (SLA) – Based on which all operations are carried out

    3. Security provisions for different services

    4. High speed redundant Internet connections to provide uninterrupted services/data availability

    5. Physical layout of the center – look for provisions in the data center to sustain temperature and humidity

    6. Disaster recovery capabilities like automated fire detection and alarming systems

    7. Customer care service centers that attend customer calls and swiftly resolve issues

The services are also available in part; meaning, when the client requires only bandwidth services or co-location services or cloud computing services it is possible to avail those services only.

Today cost-effectiveness is one important point that should be addressed while choosing a vendor. Irrespective of the service type, provider reliability, cost benefit considerations and commitment to service quality must be assessed. And finally, past proven track records should be verified before making the final choice.
